Library Receives Grant to Offer Zoo, Aquarium Virtual Programs
The Beaufort County Library System is the recipient of a Library Services Technology Act (LSTA) grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, administered by the South Carolina State Library that will fund programs for children and families throughout the summer as part of the library’s Tails and Tales-themed summer reading program.
The funding provides for six virtual programs -- three hosted by the SC Aquarium and three by the Riverbanks Zoo & Garden. The SC Aquarium’s “Virtual Field Trip” sessions will include “River Otters,” “Fish Tales,” and “SC Reptiles.” The Riverbanks Zoo’s “Tales from Riverbanks” sessions will feature a variety of animals with the Zoo Ambassador sharing stories about the featured animals.
The grant also provides funding for themed “Take and Make” craft kits, compiled by library staff and available to families. Families can pick up at the library (or by using curbside service) all materials needed to create a cute paper otter, a “leapin’ lizard,” alligator paper plate, puzzles, mazes, and more.
The virtual programs are free and open to all Beaufort County children and families. The programs are open to the first 100 screens. Sessions will open 10 minutes before start time, but the program will be full once 100 screens are viewing.
