The Beaufort County School District and the Beaufort County Library system, in a continuation of their dynamic partnership, announce the Gift of Reading program, a new initiative that aims to provide Beaufort County’s youngest students with new and enjoyable books to kick-start their home library. The new program was initiated thanks to the generosity of a local couple seeking to provide books that Beaufort County’s children can keep at home and that will, ultimately, help to develop a child’s lifelong love of reading. The school district and the public library system are a natural fit to spearhead this effort with both systems having recently partnered to implement the first county-wide summer reading program, Summer @ Your Library. The Public Library Foundation of Beaufort County, a non-profit organization that helps support the Beaufort County Library, has enthusiastically agreed to accept and manage donations in support of the Gift of Reading program.Anyone interested in contributing should send check donations payable to the Public Library Foundation of Beaufort County (PLFBC), Attn: Gift of Reading, 311 Scott Street, Beaufort, SC 29902.ContactRay McBride, DirectorBeaufort County Library systemrmcbride@bcgov.net843.255.6471
