For Immediate Release

Contact: Ron Roth

The Public Library Foundation of Beaufort County announced the launch of the Foundation’s major fundraising campaign to raise $250,000, and the creation of the Legacy Society in honor of Pat Conroy. The additional funds will expand the Foundation’s impact on the future of the Library and its goal of maintaining its position as a first-class library, meeting the needs of the citizens of Beaufort County.

Commenting on the importance of the Campaign to the future of the Library, Patsy Hand, co-chairperson of the Foundation stated, “Over the past ten years the Foundation has provided financial support for a variety of Library needs including the funding the purchases of children’s books for the branch libraries, and programs and services that support early childhood literacy.”

Foundation co-chairman, Woody Rutter added, “A successful campaign will enable the Foundation to make a much greater impact in helping the Library maintain its role as a major educational resource for the county, providing cutting edge resources for young and old alike.”

Library Director Ray McBride echoed these sentiments stating, “The success of this campaign will be important to the Library’s’ future ability to continue its vital role as a community leader in educational innovation and learning. Foundation support will make a major impact on the future of the Library by supporting the purchase of new library materials, and supporting high quality programming and innovative library services.“

The campaign will focus on donors designating gifts to the Foundation through their wills, charitable trusts and gifts of cash. Campaign coordinator Ron Roth stated, “Bequests are a way individuals can leave a significant legacy, a gift that costs them nothing during their lifetime. Gifts of cash will have an immediate impact on the size and scope of the Foundation support for the library.” Roth further stated that directed gifts are welcome to benefit a specific need of the Library.

The Public Library Foundation Board also announced the creation of the Legacy Society in honor of Pat Conroy. Beaufort author Pat Conroy was one of the greatest American authors of his generation. He dedicated his life to spreading his love for literature, reading and education to future generations. With the encouragement of Mr. Conroy’s wife, Cassandra King, the Legacy Society honors and continues his commitment through its support of the Beaufort County Library system and its mission.

In addition, the Public Library Foundation of Beaufort County invites you to a reception on Thursday, March 30, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Bluffton Branch Library.
