HBF announces Fall Festival Tour

Tickets are on sale now for Historic Beaufort Foundation's 2011 Fall Festival of Houses and Gardens in October. As a courtesy to a fellow Beaufort County Historical Resources Consortium member, we have summarized HBF's release about their upcoming tours: 

"PURCHASING ANTIQUES FOR HISTORIC INTERIORS" Luncheon and Lecture with Antiques Expert Judith Miller Dataw Island Clubhouse on Friday, October 21 at Noon. Fee. Judith Miller, an internationally acclaimed antiques expert, author, and founder of Miller’s Antiques Price Guide, will present a lecture entitled, “Purchasing Antiques For Historic Interiors.” 

WALKING TOUR Beaufort Historic District Friday, October 21 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. or 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Fee. This perennially popular tour includes eight private houses in the city’s National Historic Landmark District, the state’s largest. 

RAMBLE AROUND BEAUFORT Saturday, October 22 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. or 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Fee. This tour is a wonderful combination of houses that gives visitors a clear picture of the various historic buildings that together weave the tapestry of the Lowcountry’s architectural styles from simple to grand, from houses in the city to country retreats and plantations. *Automobile transportation required to visit country sites.

LATE AFTERNOON AT THE TABBY RUINS, SPRING ISLAND Saturday, October 22 4:00 to 6:30. Fee. The community of Spring Island has generously opened the tabby ruins for Fall Festival participants. Visit the African-American cemetery, tabby ruins, and nearby Praise House. The B.J. Scott Choir of Huspah Baptist Church will perform at the tabby ruins at both 4:30 and 5:30.

KITCHENS & CUISINE Sunday, October 23 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. or 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Fee. Local chefs will create regional specialties in private kitchens around town and on the islands. *Automobile transportation required.

About the Author

Grace Cordial has been responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Beaufort District Collection at the Beaufort County Library since 1999.  The Beaufort District Collection exists to acquire, preserve, maintain and make accessible a research collection of permanent value which records the history, culture, and environment of our part of the South Carolina lowcountry.  Besides the research room, Cordial manages the “Virtual BDC:” the BDC web pages, the Online Obituary Index, two digital collections, a new BDC.BCL Facebook page, and the Connections blog.  
 
Among her duties is to coordinate or present programs about local history, Gullah culture, and our coastal environment, including occasional instructional sessions about how to perform historical and/or genealogical research.
